Missing my roots
I’ve spent the last six days with my partner’s family in Burlington, Vermont, and it has been a beautiful respite from the hustle and bustle of my everyday life. That being said, I am desperate to get back home and get back baking! My future mother-in-law Tracy baked a wonderful loaf of no-knead bread while we were here, and it just brought me back to when I was a child and my mother would bake us bread every morning in our kitchen in Kentucky.
So many things are different about my life in Boston than when I was growing up in a small town. I miss some of the simpler things- mostly about my gardening. I would do anything to be back in that garden plot, picking tomatoes, weeding around the green beans, and then going off and picking blackberries to make fresh blackberry ice cream, or grapes to later be made into fresh grape juice.
We went on a lake cruise of Lake Champlain, and I saw some of the most beautiful skies I’ve seen in a very long time. It refreshed my soul to have some time away from my kitchen, and gave me time to think of some new recipes for all my devoted customers! I am so excited to come back to Boston and get baking again for you.
